Dolphin Event
Delfinario Sonora Giving Back to Community
Over 80 excited and smiling students from the Adelante Estudiante scholarship program arrived at the Delfinario Sonora last Saturday. Mil gracias to Lorenzo DeCima from the State Financial Office in Guaymas who provided the buses, as well as, the tables and chairs for our lunch. Anxious sponsors and many volunteers awaited their arrival in anticipation of a fabulous afternoon provided by the Delfinario now a part of the State agency CEDES.
After a tasty snack of burritos, which was underwritten by a generous San Carlos donor, we all gathered to listen to an educational program by Marisol Guerrero Martinez about the local environment and sea life. We moved on to the sea lions who danced, clapped, jumped and entertained us all with their antics. Then the dolphins leapt in joy, danced on their tails, waved and left us with the perfect end to a fabulous afternoon. The following day 9 lucky students and a couple of volunteers had the opportunity to spend time in the water with the dolphins. This wrapped up an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
Sponsors and students had the chance to get to know each other better, and all the students greatly appreciated this fabulous opportunity. Many of these students would not be attending secondary, high school or even college without the generosity of sponsors who pay for tuition, uniforms, shoes and school supplies. They also offer the incredible gift of hope so that these young people can continue with their education and make the most of themselves.
This extraordinary time would not have happened without the incredible support of the delfinario staff:
Lic.Carlos Antonio Gonzalez Nemer, Director General
Lic. Alberto Albin Cobillas, Director of Administration
Lorena Gutierrez Esheverria, Administrative Assistant
Maria del Sol Guerrero Martinez, Environmental Education
A main objective of the Delfinario Sonora is to offer dolphin therapy to disabled children. For the public, they are open Saturdays and Sundays only. They have shows on the weekends at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30, & 3:30. Adults are 100 pesos, children only 50. They have 3 levels of swim experiences with the dolphins ranging from $400 to $1,500. It’s well worth your time to take your guests and help support the Delfinario.
Working on your Spanish language skills? They would love to have local residents open their homes for a few days to a week for families of the children who are taking their therapy to help defray the cost of hotels and restaurant meals. This would be a great Spanish language immersion course while helping a family with a disabled child.
I LOVE being a part of Adelante Estudiante/Castaway Kids! The many volunteers of this organization are a group of “doers” not complainers and truly make a difference in many lives in this beautiful area that we are privileged to be in.
